[#8660085] 2007-07-07 21:22:48 Left by Matt F (#0) Reply
The Wright Liberator was bodied for the Volvo B10L and was launched in 1995 (the B10L was launched over here in 1993). There were not many Volvo B10L's produced, this was due to the cost of the bus and apparently there was an awkard layout at the back as it was produced for the European markets. The Wright Renown was for the Volvo B10BLE and was launched in 1997 and was far more successful. For post-95 Scania low-floor chassis Wrights called it the Axcess-Ultalow (for L113) and Axcess-Floline (for L94UB).

This is the cheap way of converting a bus to single door!! by doing it this way they arnt removing everything such as the wiring. i bet behind them panels u still get the steps and stuff present. If u look closely theirs a panel that lifts on skirting where door would go which goes to show something needs to be accessed. With these independant companies they dont do things properly. Yes it would look lovely with a window. Why didnt they just leave the doors their!! so wat if they loose a couple seats. All i can say is these buses are only fit for the scrap yard!!

As a point of historical interest, the odd looking halfcab 'decker at the right of the shot is one of two Leyland 'Lowloader' prototypes, i.e. forerunners to what became the Atlantean! Sad to see such a famous bus neglected like this. I notice the photo was taken in 205 - any info on whether these are still there, or if they have moved on? GT

The sole Volvo B7TL (with Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini bodywork) in the fleet was purchased new in late 2005 (October I think) and instantly put in the 'Lancashire Way' livery scheme. I remember being in Accrington bus station when it was still very new and there were lots of photographer's flocking to capture it on camera (including me!). The buses on this route recieved names, which was the first time something of that nature had occured within Lancashire United. They all start with 'Pride of...' Now, the 'Lancashire Way' isn't the only differently branded route - there is also 'Spot On' - that can be your next photograph adventure!!! :-)
[#8662554] 2007-07-14 21:10:54 Left by (#0) Reply
Part of the same batch that went to Burnley & Pendle for their X43 service - branded as The Witch Way. Burnley & Pendle got 14, the 15th is this one. Some of the older B7TLs with Plaxton President bodywork went to Lancashire United. All but two are branded for The Lancashire Way. Of the other two, one is in standard Lancashire United colours and the other is branded for the 152 Burnley - Preston service. The rest of Burnley's Presidents went to Harrogate and Keighley, with one going to Yorkshire Coastliner.

Yeah First have taken over Hutchison but havn't agreed a date of when it will be effective. We do know however that the drivers and buses will be transfered to Blantyre Depot and will merge into First Glasgow (No2)
[#8644064] 2007-05-19 14:41:34 Left by (#0) Reply
Possibly a silly question but what is the difference between First Glasgow (No. 1) and First Glasgow (No. 2)?
[#8645038] 2007-05-21 22:39:48 Left by Scott (#0) Reply
First Glasgow (No1) is what used to be Strathclyde's Buses however First Glasgow (No2) is the remnants of Kelvin Central Buses
[#8645490] 2007-05-23 12:47:26 Left by (#0) Reply
First are also supposed to be taking on Whitelaws routes because he's giving up. This is wrong because the more established independants that give way the more little operators like Coakley that come in and put on Heaps of Junk. That dosn't make the journey exciting or comfortable. The buses should also be Nationalised again and we should go back to the SBG. They were the days
[#8645535] 2007-05-23 15:47:18 Left by (#0) Reply
Why would Whitelaws be giving up? Do you know their operations? Well they have a clear run from Hamilton - Coalburn, Netherburn etc etc. Are receiving new darts (you not seen them in Hamilton?) So I think that you need to check your sources as in my opinion - they are bull! Whitelaws are not being taken over. I am 100% certain that they are not.

Yes he was giving up and due to this First had launched a bid!!! there you go. Supposidly he dosn't want to run buses anymore
[#8646186] 2007-05-25 14:47:51 Left by (#0) Reply
The guys right - he is not giving up! Why would they go and buy a fleet of new buses and give up - as he said - check your sources!
[#8646969] 2007-05-28 00:25:17 Left by (#0) Reply
Well then i put this to you did Hutchisons not add to its fleet? does it not have clear runs? and yet it is being taken over.
[#8647066] 2007-05-28 11:07:48 Left by (#0) Reply
Hutchison has not had a new bus or coach since 2004 - they SOLD their brand new coaches after a month or two! Also, they did not have a clear run: They had Mckindless running 5 mins in front of them, they had First as well. Whitelaws does not have the competition - from Hamilton up to Coalburn, Netherburn, Stonehouse etc - there are no other companies! You go through Larkhall and see how busy their buses are by the time they get there.

Hutchisons buses go to get their Vaults fitted tonight for the transfer to First and the Buses become part of the First Glasgow (No2) fleet on the 1st of July

Yeah there was a muck up the some of them have them and some don't They could'nt get them in without mucking up the linal carpet and Hutchison told them not to fit them because he wants them to be in as good a condition as pos till he packs it in. Supposidly now they are going to get fitted when they get painted

10 of the 16 buses going to First have had vaults fitted. Not one has received even a lick of barbie paint yet. They will take 4 coaches for the 2 express services to Cleland and Newmains from Glasgow and Hutchison Coaches will remain operating 12 other coaches on tours, hires etc. etc. - this is the be all and end all of what has happened so far.

kevin i beg to differ, i used to travel on buses like this between elgin and inverness every week, u would get off with a creak in your back and a sore back side because of the seats same with the old oxford tube things they used on megabus. and as for them mistral things, they look ugly with that sloping window at the front, no need for it at all. I'm just glad stagecoach have replaced things like 52608 on my route with some comfortable modern B7 profile coaches!

I just want to say that this bus isn't a Ballater bus it is an Elgin Depot bus as i work for the company and in Elgin and we have it on routes just like what the last comment said. This coaches aren't the best i know but the entrance door on these ones are better than the new fleet that we have.

The A reg Citybuses were withdrawn in May 2006 along with the bulk of the F and G reg Citybuses. The Ailsas were withdrawn in July 2006. The Citybuses left in Glasgow are G regys which got a second shot in August 2006 and are still here yet and have been added to with some Northern COunties bodied types from Manchester.

One of the Plaxton President bodied Volvo B7TLs inherited from Burnley & Pendle in 2005. This was the first time Lancashire United used a wholly different livery to market a route (X40/X41). Not all of these buses recieved this livery though by Lancashire United. Others recieved the normal blue/cream colour scheme, while others got a route branding for route 152.

[#8649480] 2007-06-04 17:29:57 Left by (#0) Reply
No im afraid i disagree, I would say the most unreliable bus on the road is the Wright Renown's. For a start the engines to small for them and the struggle getting up hills. They overheat all the time. The doors take ages to open and often get stuck. You feel every single bump on the road. The brakes are slack and they take ages to stop. The darts are alright buses most are quite fast some just need new engines i had one yesterday 42877.

saw it in Falkirk on the E43 route yesterday as the bus that would normaly do that run was on the 3/4 runs. that means that the number 3 runs from Grangemouth to the Falkirk wheel then goes back to Grangemouth on the same route. It then changes to a 4 and goes to Camelon and back as a 4 back to Grangemouth and goes back to a 3. They keep doing that all day unless they are needed for another route later in the day.

The 262 route ? going to glasgow? Are you talking about the First Glasgow 262 that comes from Parkhead or does Stagecoach run a 262?

Only First run the 262 and it was probably an L reg B6 at Parkhead for the 32/33 routes which somehow made it onto the 262.

According to a DVLA leaflet, you just need a standard bus (cat. D) licence. It's illegal to carry passengers in a trailer therefore the back end isn't a trailer.

i agree they are just like trains with a carriage on them
[#8681014] 2007-09-14 01:54:49 Left by (#0) Reply
The licence you need depends on the weight of the trailer. If the trailer is less than 750kg, you can get by on a normal Cat D. However, if the trailer is more than 750kg, you need a Cat D + E licence.
[#8721675] 2008-02-28 22:36:51 Left by Steven (#0) Reply
I am an Ex-Bus driver. You only need cat D on your licence. It's not classed as a trailer because it can't be disconnected without the use of special tools and passengers can pass from one end to the other without hinderence. Anyone that says you need a HGV licence or D+E is talking out their a**e

Hi Glen Jut for you information these buses were not Marshall Darts they were actually MAN Marshalls which are now defunct. The Marshall Dart, i believe was made after MAN stopped providing Marshall with the engine and chassis, hence the reason they look so alike. Marshalls went bust and MCV bought the rights to the Marsahll Capital bodwork. Hope this is of help to you.

i read in a newspaper in dunfermline one day that a woman wanted to catch the X26 to Kircaldy for a trip Now this woman was in a wheel chair so she couldnt get it on a normal high floor bus. The bus was advertised to be one of thouse but there was a problum with it and it had to be returned to the depot. A high floored bus was the only replacement they could provide. So she had to get out of her wheel chair and climb up the stairs and very uncomfortabley struggle up the steps. These things happen but i think she made a complaint about the first driver who didnt know how to work the wheel chair equipment as the one going there was i think one of thouse.

if i was to join First or Stagecoach then they would only give me a run like the D7 to do then when i got some exprence driving a bus i could take a 78 or something like that. Only if i had been with them for a while would i get the X24 or one of thouse routes to do.

i started Driving for stagecoach when i was 19, you can drive any bus as long as it is within the 30 mile distance as you cannot do Tachograph (EU) work until you are 21, after this you can do anything

Come from Perth Depot, do all town runs, the only 3 things i can't do are Megabus work, St Fillans runs and Aberfeldy runs, all others are fine. and you can drive any bus just as long as it's not breaking your restrictions

Volvo B10BLEs with Wrightbus Renown bodywork still make up a large part of the Lancashire United fleet, although buses with with the more modern Eclipse style bodywork are beginning to displace these. Most Renowns were bought new by the company in late 2001/early 2002, although some were later transferred from Yorkshire Coastliner.

i dont know mate what i do know is that citylink get some of there coaches hired in from companys like Parks they even use Rennies from Dunfermline. As i saw a rennies marked coach with a citylink banner on it going on the 909 route to Edinburgh about 4 weeks ago

RE first question: Stagecoach and Parks seem to work very closely due to the citylink/megabus venture which makes me wonder if stagecoach own or have shares in Parks. They do hav some MAN double deckers in Megabus livery but with Parks legal lettering. And megabus is 'brought to you by stagecoach'

What pish is this?? Parks haven't loaned vehicles to Rennies or vice-versa. Rennies have 2 LSK reg coaches that have never had anything to do with Parks. In fact the reg nos came from Stagecoach. Besides which, 1993 registered Jonckheeres are a bit long in the tooth for Parks nowadays.

Parks are subbies for the 900 and parks own the dundee, perth, inverness and aberdeen runs. stagecoach were forced to sell them the runs because the competition commision deemed there to be a monopoly. Stagecoach had too much of scotland to themselfs

The driver of this bus is a maniac. This is his steady bus and is just typical of him to park in the middle of the road to prevent other buses passing him. He especially hates Hutchison buses and will do anything to get past them. And I'm not just imagining things or making them up, as I am a Hutchison driver and witnessed his antics in person.

Nah you can't. It's just full of seats on those buses I think. Also. From time-to-time they are used for the X25 service to Cumbernauld, I guess if one of the bluebird buses breaks down, they use them.

Was on this bus yesterday on the X10. Its such a smooth ride you don't feel a bump. The inside is immaculate. I hope First do it justice when it gets repainted and i hope they continue to take care of it. Its a lovely big bus and a pleasure to be on

The fact you can use the all day ticket on these and with services to Larkhall makes the £3 more worth it now. I think this will be a fresh start for First and they'll continue to offer the same high standard as Hutchison did and hopefully improve the rest of the fleet.

When did first get these. There is also 25 Enviro 500's coming to Glasgow too.I think you should also do a recent collection because it would be easier to find new photos and i find your collection very good

These are my favourite - I love the red, black and white. The prettiest bus on the fleet, I'd say.
